Gormenghast, the second volume of Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast Trilogy, opens with an extraordinary series of portraits in words. The Gormenghast Trilogy Reread – Titus Groan. I fear that After having read the trilogy three times, I've come to accept T. Well, I've finally got round to it. A series by Mervyn Peake made of the novels Titus Groan, Gormenghast, and Titus Alone and the lesser-known novella "Boy In Darkness", which take place sometime before the second book. I first had a go at reading the Gormenghast trilogy about 24 years ago, at the age of 19, when I was reading a lot of science and fantasy fiction. Why did I never read past book one? For first and ever foremost he is child. Late last year, I was asked to write the introduction to Overlook Press' new edition of Mervyn Peake's Titus Alone, last novel of the so-called Gormenghast Trilogy. In fact, Titus Groan is the first of a trilogy.
